Storm's arrival
When 8-year-old Akita Storm arrived at the Shelter in August 2024, he was found wandering as a stray, when he first came to us, it was clear from the start that Storm was a gentle soul with a big heart and a lot of love to give, he immediately took to Shelter life and met all the staff as if he’d known them his whole life.
when Storm arrived, it was clear that his eyesight noticeably poor. Following a thorough assessment from our veterinary team, Storm underwent surgery to improve his eyesight. The procedure was a success, and he took it all in his stride, never once letting it dull his cheerful, playful spirit.
From the moment he arrived, Storm was no trouble at all. He settled into Shelter life quickly and seemed to take everything in his stride. He became a favourite amongst the team and just loved to play, especially when the snow arrived. Despite his age and size, he played as if he was a little puppy!
Despite the fact that Storm was such a charming old man, he didn’t attract much suitable interest at first and it took a while for any concrete interest to materialise. As time went on, he had a few temporary foster placements, but none led to his forever home. It wasn’t through any fault of his own. It was simply a case of bad luck.
Determined to find him the family he deserved, we shared Storm’s story far and wide. He became something of a local celebrity, especially after a staff outing to Tynemouth where he enjoyed a whipped cream treat and was even recognised by fans who had followed his journey online.
Home at last
After more than 250 days in our care, Storm was matched with an elderly gentleman for a foster placement, and this time it was different. Almost immediately, it was clear this was the home Storm had been waiting for.
With the run of a large garden and plenty of new friends to meet, Storm has truly found his place in the world. He is thriving in his golden years, bringing joy and companionship to someone who cherishes him just as much in return.
After 294 days in our care, we invited his new owner in to finalise Storm’s rehome. Once the team caught wind of the news, staff and volunteers, many on their days off, returned to the Shelter to say goodbye. Storm left the Shelter with a guard of honour from everyone on site, a fitting send off for a truly wonderful dog.
He continues to live the life he deserves, with love, companionship, and the freedom to roam his huge new garden!!!
