Whisper

Whisper came to us in May 2025 as a gifted cat after spending most of her life outdoors. She arrived with a scar running down her eye from a ruptured abscess, signs that life outdoors had not been kind to her.

Because she had very little socialisation, Whisper found human contact difficult. Throughout her stay with us, she would stay at the back of her pen when it was time for food and would growl and hiss at staff. We knew that given Whisper’s tough start to life, she would need a specialist home that could give her the space and patience that she needed.

In July 2025, Whisper met her forever family for the first time. With Whisper’s reluctance to interact with people, it took more than thirty minutes of gentle encouragement and patience to get her into a cat carrier so that she could go to her new home on a farm site in Durham!

When she first arrived in her new home, Whisper was given a large room downstairs that she could call her own. Slowly but surely, her new family started to build trust with her and before long, she took over the summer house on the farm where she enjoys the hot weather (when there eventually is some!) as well as her own room in the farmhouse with food, warmth and shelter, and most importantly for her, the freedom to choose how close she wants to be.

Her new family have told us:

“Whisper is just lovely, its been an absolute privilege to see her come out of her shell. She’s totally taken over the summerhouse for herself and we’re so happy to see that she feels comfortable around us!”

With time and patience, Whisper has blossomed. Thanks to the care of her forever family, she has become surprisingly affectionate. She now follows the male of the couple around the farm while he works with the other animals, quietly keeping him company throughout the day.
