Know the signs
This month is Pet Cancer Awareness month and we’d like to share some tips on how to potentially identify cancer in pets in the early stages as the earlier that it’s spotted, the more that can be done to make sure your pet lives a long healthy life!
– Unusual lumps or bumps that grow or change
– Sores that don’t heal
– Loss of appetite or sudden weight loss
– Difficulty eating, chewing, or swallowing
– Lethargy or unwillingness to exercise
– Persistent lameness or stiffness
– Changes in bathroom habits
– Bleeding or discharge from any opening
Now it is also important to remember that if your pet shows any of these symptoms, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they have cancer, our minds usually go straight to the worst possible scenario and it is important to remain calm! Not all lumps or changes are cancerous, but they should still be checked.
If you are worried, book a vet appointment promptly as the sooner it’s looked at, the better the chance of a positive outcome. It is also important to keep a record, take photos, note when you first noticed the signs, and monitor any changes. All of this will help your vet properly diagnose the issue.
