Lexi's Journey
When 14-year-old Jack Russell Terrier Lexi arrived at the Shelter in April 2025, she was a little stray who was in need of some TLC but it was also clear to us from the start that she had a huge heart. From the moment she toddled through our gates, we knew that Lexi still had plenty of life left to live.
Lexi’s teeth were in a poor state, causing her discomfort and difficulty eating. After consulting with our veterinary team, we determined she needed major dental surgery. In total, 15 teeth were removed, leaving her with just two.
She also underwent successful surgery to remove lumps from her back, a precautionary step to ensure she could enjoy her senior years in good health.
Lexi settled into Shelter life with ease, quickly becoming a staff favourite. In the playroom, she loved to potter about at her own pace, sniffing every corner before climbing into the nearest available lap for a cuddle.
“She just had this lovely calm energy,” said one team member. “Once she’s had a little explore, she’s perfectly content just to sit with you.”
Lexi even took part in one of our Care Home Companion visits, bringing to older residents.
“She really didn’t act her age in the best way possible! She was so excited to meet everyone and made a real impact, she was dragging me from the car all the way into the home as she was that excited!” said our Community Engagement Officer, Jack Brydon.
A Home for Her Golden Years
After her health had stabilised and her personality had stolen a few more hearts, it was time for Lexi to find her forever home.
She’s now happily rehomed with a wonderful family and a new four-legged brother, another dog who’s more than happy to share his home and his toys with this lovely little lady.
Lexi’s story reminds us and that every dog, no matter how old, deserves comfort, companionship, and love. Thanks to our supporters, we were able to provide Lexi with the care she needed and the second chance she deserved.
Troubled Tails Appeal
Senior pets may move a little slower, but they love just as hard and make the most devoted companions. Your donation can help us ensure that our older residents continue to get the care they need while they stay with us.
