Great North Run 2027 – Terms and Conditions

What does my £300 fundraising target mean for Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter? It costs Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter approximately £1.7million per annum to operate and be able to help hundreds of animals each year. Events like the Great North Run are a vital part of our fundraising calendar, so we encourage our runners to try hard to hit the target they have been set. Each GNR place costs the Shelter approximately £160, when taking into account our charity package and the number of places we can have. This is why we ask you to raise £300 so that, not only are the costs of your place covered, but additional money is raised to help the animals in our care.

What if I don’t raise the £300? We will encourage you to continue fundraising until you hit your target. It’s amazing how quickly the money can add up, and our team are on hand to support you with advice and ideas. If you are unsure about anything, or have any other questions, please get in touch with fundraising@dogandcatshelter.com.

What happens if I decide I no longer want to run? If you are reconsidering taking part in the run, after booking your place, please send us an email so we can talk through your options. We do not have the ability to cancel places once the deadline set by Great Run has passed. This is at the start of July, and we will advise you of this date in advance, once it is released. If you decide you cannot run after the deadline, we’d strongly encourage you to defer your place to run in the 2028 event. An unused place costs the Shelter money. So, although deferring your place may not reduce these losses in the short term, it will help to support the charity further in the long term by you opting to support us in the 2028 event. You may also wish to make a financial contribution or still actively fundraise in 2027 to support these costs. However, we understand that things happen, so please just get in touch so we can talk through your options.

How do I defer my space? If you wish to defer after the deadline (at the beginning of July) you will need to do this yourself online, via Great Run. Search ‘Great North Run withdrawal’ online to find and complete the form. If you choose this option, please be aware you will need to pay the full registration fee to take part in next year’s event and will not receive a refund for this year’s event.
