World Animal Day - 4th October
This World Animal Day, Sunday 4 October, Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter is joining Naturewatch Foundation’s Donate a Dinner campaign – and we’d love you to get involved.
Every day, the dogs and cats in our care need nutritious food to keep them happy and healthy. For some animals, particularly those who arrive underweight or needing a little extra support, the right food can also be an important part of helping them recover and get ready for their forever home.
How can you Donate a Dinner?
There are lots of ways you can take part. You could donate a tin or packet of dog or cat food, buy something from our Amazon Wishlist, donate the cost of a meal, or even organise a collection at your workplace, school or community group.
On World Animal Day itself, we’ll have a special Donate a Dinner drop-off bay at the Shelter, making it easy to bring your donations along.
And we’d love to see you! Take a photo with your donation and share it with us on social media so we can celebrate World Animal Day together and show just how much our community cares about animals in need.
Helping dogs like Missy
When Missy arrived at the Shelter, she was confused and underweight. Our Animal Welfare Team put her on a specially planned diet to help her gradually build up her strength and get back to a healthy weight.
With plenty of good food, care and attention, Missy began to thrive.
She has since found her forever home, where she even has a new sibling to share life with. They’ve already enjoyed plenty of adventures together, and Missy is getting all the love and attention she deserves.

After we helped Missy back to full health, she managed to find her forever home where she enjoys a lot of adventures on the beach!

Helping families like Karen’s
Your donations can help some of our smallest residents too.
Karen and her kittens came into our care in rather unusual circumstances – after being discovered inside an industrial skip at the Shelter!
The little family had sought refuge there after being spooked, but thankfully our team was able to rescue them safely. Once they were out of the skip, we made sure Karen and her kittens had everything they needed, including plenty of food, warmth and care.
In time, every member of the family went on to find their forever home.
