Treacle is looking for an adult only home. He will require outdoor access once settled.

Treacle was brought into our care after his owner passed away, and unfortunately he really struggled to adapt to the shelter environment.   Treacle spent the majority of his time in a cat box with his head down, not engaging with anyone and hissing when approached. Due to how shut down Treacle was in our care, he’s gone on foster with one of our lovely foster families.

After one month in a foster home, Treacle has made some progress.  He will hiss when he is scared or feels cornered, but this has declined slowly over time.  He has begun to explore the house but is still very wary of humans, so avoids occupied rooms. He does not yet want to be touched or handled. He is disinterested in toys and even treats so it is difficult to find a way into his heart.

Treacle will need a home that is experienced in dealing with timid cats and has the patience to let him come of out of his shell on his own terms.  He will need spaces that are ‘his own’ where he can retreat and remain undisturbed.

Poor Treacle has had such a hard time recently, he’s grieving his owner, and it’s obviously been very confusing for him getting moved around from one place to another, and spending time in an overwhelming place like the shelter. Our hope is that eventually, once he’s settled into a home, he will come around to people, but as we don’t know much about what he was like in the past, it is possible that he will always remain slightly aloof and want to co-exist at a distance with his new forever family. His new family will need to be gentle and patient with him, and accept that he may not want to be one for cuddles.
