Otto

Otto arrived at the Shelter on 22 September 2025 after a very difficult start to life. Before coming into our care, he had suffered severe trauma to his hind leg. The injury was so extensive that our vets were faced with a tough decision, and It was decided they would need to amputate the leg to give him the quickest and best possible chance of living a comfortable, healthy life.

Otto’s Progress

When he first arrived and was settling into his new cat pen, Otto was very sore, uncomfortable and understandably unsettled. He often growled and hissed as he tried to adjust to the world again with three legs instead of four. Everyday movements felt unfamiliar and he was wary of anyone trying to help him.

Despite all he had been through, it did not take long for Otto’s real nature to shine through. As he started to heal and his pain eased, his confidence grew. The staff spent time reassuring him, speaking softly and giving him space to move at his own pace. Little by little he began to trust them. Within days, this once frightened cat had transformed into a gentle lap cat who enjoyed being close to the people who cared for him.

Otto’s Forever Home

After just 18 days at the Shelter, Otto met the family who would become his forever home. They saw the sweet, affectionate cat behind the uncertainty and knew they could offer him the comfort he needed. Soon after taking him home, they sent a message to share how well he was doing.

“I wanted to let you know Larry, formally known as Otto, has settled in very well. He loves company and spends his time sleeping on one of our beds. He is managing the stairs very well. He hissed twice on the day we brought him home, which was a reaction to my daughter leaving and reentering the room. He is eating very well. He seems to have settled in exceptionally well and is a lovely new addition to our family. Thank you.”

Otto’s journey was short in days but full of transformation. From a cat frightened by pain and uncertainty to a much loved family pet, his story shows how far a little patience, expert care and kindness can take an animal in need.
