A superb day at Close House
Tuesday 16 September saw our fifth annual Golf Day tee off in style at Close House, where supporters of Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter came together on the Lee Westwood Filly Course and raised an incredible £10,092 for animals in need.
Golfers took on a full programme of challenges out on the course, including Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin, Roll the Dice, and Beat the Pro with Close House’s own PGA Professional, Jason Pottage. Huge thanks to Jason for challenging our golfers throughout the day and keeping us right on the rules. Friendly competition, plenty of laughs, and some superb golf made for a fantastic atmosphere from first tee to final putt. The Roll the Dice game brought plenty of laughs and a few more hole in one’s than what’d usually be seen!
Off the fairways, our auction and raffle proved a real highlight. Prizes included Lee Westwood’s own putter and a range of brilliant experiences like four balls at golf courses across the region and much more! Thank you to everyone who bid and bought tickets. Your generosity helps us provide care, shelter, and second chances to the animals who need us most.

Emma Crowe, Corporate Partnerships Officer, said: “I’m incredibly proud of what our supporters achieved on the Filly Course this year. Raising £10,092 is a fantastic result and will go straight towards caring for the dogs and cats who need us most. A heartfelt thank you to every team who took part, our headline sponsor, awards sponsor and hole sponsors for their generous backing, Close House for being wonderful hosts, and the Gateshead College students for capturing the day. Your support makes a real and immediate difference.”
We are also grateful to the students from Gateshead College who joined us to capture footage and help behind the scenes. And to every team who entered and every supporter who contributed, thank you. We simply could not do this without you. A further thank you to Belinda Gowland for all her support in making the day as successful as it was.
