Storm's final update
Storm came to the Shelter in August 2024 and from the very beginning, he made an impression. It was clear from the get go that Storm was a truly special dog. He was playful, loving and full of warmth, winning over everyone he met within moments, be that with staff or volunteers who worked with him. He loved people, enjoyed the company of other dogs and took everything in his stride. Storm was truly one in a million.
Behind that joyful personality, Storm needed significant veterinary care. He required surgery for entropion, dental treatment and ongoing medication, with vet costs totalling £1,300.20. Through it all, he remained cheerful and trusting, greeting each day with the same enthusiasm and affection.
Storm quickly became well known beyond the Shelter as his story was shared widely across our social media. Despite his popularity, suitable applications were slow to come in. On off site trips, he was frequently recognised by supporters who had followed his journey online. He loved his outings to Quorum Business Park and Tynemouth, where he enjoyed pup cups, attention from passers by and plenty of fuss from fans who already knew his name.
Although Storm captured many hearts, it took 294 days for him to find his forever home. When that day finally came in June 2025, it proved that sometimes the wait really is worth it. Storm met a wonderful gentleman who was able to offer him the home he had been waiting for. From the very first night, Storm settled as if he had always belonged there.
His adopter told us:
“The garden has been explored, though there’s still a lot more to take in, and he already seems very settled in the house. Quite amazing actually. Storm slept the whole night on his bed in our bedroom, with the odd dream and snore. To be honest, I cannot believe how he has accepted where he is. You would think he had been here before.”
Shelter staff were later invited to visit and see how Storm was getting on. He was so happy to see them that he jumped straight into one of their cars before they left, eager for one last cuddle.
Sadly, in October 2025, Storm suffered a sudden medical emergency and passed away. Even in his final moments at the vets, he was surrounded by people who recognised him and loved him. While his time in his forever home was heartbreakingly short, Storm spent the end of his life safe, cherished and exactly where he belonged.

Storm’s story reflects the reality of the work we do. His veterinary care alone cost £1,300.20, and with an average cost of £25 per day to care for a dog, Storm’s total care exceeded £8,500. That includes food, medical treatment, enrichment, off site trips and the many hours of dedication from our staff.
We could not give dogs like Storm the care, comfort and happy endings they deserve without the support of our community. If you can, please donate today so we can continue to be there for animals who need us, for as long as they need us.
