We are looking for ‘Fundraising Volunteers’ to Help at Events and Raise Funds  to Help our Animals.

Volunteers play a vital role in the overall running of our charity. Not just for the loving support they give our animals but also for the essential hands on assistance they provide for our charity shops, events and administration.

Signing up to be a volunteer enables you to offer that support to our charity but allows you the flexibility for us to fit in around you.

I have been a volunteer dog walker for 14 years and have to say it has been the most rewarding years and could not imagine my life not doing this. Every week I have the enjoyment of doing something so rewarding. – Joyce, Dog Walker Volunteer

I have been an events assistant volunteer for 2 years. I help out with all different kinds of fundraising events. I love the flexibility of being able to do something to help the shelter in my spare time. – Alison, Events Volunteer

I’ve been volunteering at the Wallsend and Chillingham Road shop for over a year. I like giving my time to help such a great cause. I also enjoy spending time with the staff, customers and their four legged friends- Joanne, Shop Volunteer

Dog walking,  Cat cuddling and Rabbit socialising

In order to ensure the safety of our volunteers and to maintain consistency in how our animals are socialised, we are only able to recruit a very limited number of volunteers.  For this reason, the recruitment process is quite competitive.  Please think carefully about being able to commit your time before applying.

Unfortunately due to the high number of applications we receive, we are unable to respond to everyone.  If you do not receive a response, you have been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Please be aware that for insurance reasons, we are unable to accept volunteers under 18 years of age.

Registered volunteers for these roles are required to attend on the same day each week during opening hours.  Successful applicants will be assigned a day subject to availability.

Event Volunteers

Events volunteers attend various events both at our shelter and at venues across the region throughout the year. These can include outdoor dog shows, Christmas Markets, bag packs, fun days, collections in stores, fairs and many more.

Events normally take place on weekends and evenings however there are some that are on during the week.

 Shop Volunteers

Another great volunteering role is a shop volunteer! Volunteering in our charity shops is very flexible and if you can only do an hour or two that is still time which is very appreciated.

Shop volunteers can help with anything from serving customers on the till to sorting out donations, steaming, tagging and putting out new stock on the shop floor.

Our charity shops are so important to the charity as they bring in extra income to help pay for things such as veterinary bills and heating for our animals.

If you’re just after something to fill your time or maybe to fill an hour or so before the school run, why not volunteer and help a good cause as well?

If you are interested in volunteering at our charity shops, please email gemma@dogandcatshelter.com or call 0191 263 7664.

Please be aware that for insurance reasons, we are unable to accept volunteers under 18 years of age.
